Affordable Therapy in Vaughan, ON

For the people who know they need support and have been putting it off because of what it costs.

Cost should not be the reason someone doesn’t get help.

Therapy works. The research on that is clear. What is less clear, for a lot of people, is how to access it without it becoming a significant financial strain — particularly when the situations that bring people to therapy are often already creating financial pressure of their own.

The standard rate for psychotherapy in Ontario sits between $150 and $250 per session, depending on the provider. For someone attending weekly sessions, that adds up quickly. For someone without extended health benefits, or with a plan that covers only a portion of the cost, it can become unsustainable before the work has had time to do what it is supposed to do.

Our reduced-rate program exists to close that gap. Sessions are delivered by supervised student psychotherapists completing their clinical training under the direct oversight of our registered therapists. The rate is $120 per session. The quality of care is not reduced.

What reduced-rate therapy can help with:
Reduced-rate sessions at Talk to Heal address the same range of concerns as our full-fee services. This is not a limited offering. It is the same clinical environment, the same intake process, and the same evidence-informed approach — delivered by a supervised therapist in training rather than a fully registered one.

For more complex presentations including trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, or active couples therapy, our full-fee registered therapists are the appropriate starting point. If your needs shift during reduced-rate therapy, we will tell you honestly and discuss the right next step.

Frequently asked questions

Are sessions with a student psychotherapist as effective as sessions with a registered therapist?
For the presentations we work with at the reduced-rate level, yes. The research on therapy outcomes consistently shows that therapeutic alliance, the quality of the relationship between therapist and client, is one of the strongest predictors of outcome, independent of therapist experience level.
Your student therapist is supervised by a Registered Psychotherapist at Talk to Heal. Supervision occurs regularly and involves direct case consultation on your treatment. Your supervisor is not in the room with you, but they are actively informed about your progress and involved in guiding your therapist’s clinical decisions. This is standard practice for supervised clinical training in Ontario and is required by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
Coverage depends on your specific benefit plan. Many extended health plans cover psychotherapy delivered by a supervised student therapist under the umbrella of a registered supervisor. We recommend contacting your benefits provider directly to confirm before booking, as policies vary significantly across plans and employers. We can provide you with a receipt that includes the relevant information your insurer is likely to require.
Availability varies depending on which student therapists are currently taking clients. We will be transparent about current wait times when you reach out. If there is a short wait for a reduced-rate spot, we will let you know and give you the option to wait or to discuss other options.
Yes. Some clients begin with reduced-rate therapy and transition to a registered therapist as their financial situation changes, or as the nature of their work shifts toward something that benefits from a higher level of clinical experience. We can facilitate that transition internally where possible, which means less disruption to your care than starting over with a new practice entirely.
